A photomanip entry for the Sweeney Todd Movie Poster Contest that everyone and their dog seems to be entering.
I've never really been one for musicals even though growing up my dad would take the family to see the shows that came through town. (Hated "Evita", loved "The Will Rogers Follies" and was freaked out by "Cats".) Alright, truth be told, I also liked some musical movies like; "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" and "Hedwig and The Angry Inch" and the often musical show; "The Mighty Boosh". (I have had "Future Sailors" stuck in my head for the past two days. Blast it.)
Anyway, I think 95% of musicals out there are cheesey and too sweet for my dark and twisted taste.
With that said, you can add "Sweeney Todd" to the list of musicals I like. How can you not like a whole musical about a serial killer and his off her rocker partner in crime? And cannibalism! It's a musical with cannibalism! What a kicker!
Not convinced? Check out this video for the song, "God, that's good".
"Bless my eyes, fresh supplies!"
Oh, you are going to have this song stuck in your head all day long. Trust me.
Now with the poster, I wanted to make it so that anyone, even if they had never heard of "Sweeney Todd" before, would instantly understand what the movie was about. Of course, knowing me, I did a comic with the photos provided.
Yeah, I am a comic nerd. As if there was any doubt.
The contest did not give us a logo. While I was tempted to lift it off of the official poster, I'd hate to learn that my entry was disqualified because of the lifting. Instead, I came up with my own bloody one.
The bloody necks get a little lost in the shrinking of the poster. Up close and larger, they are very spattery. But, hey, what are you going to do?
Now, if you excuse me, I think I am going to go watch "Velvet Goldmine" for the umpteenth time.
